“Disease management programs” (DMPs) are special programs for chronically ill patients with coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. These programs are sponsored by all health insurance companies and enable you to receive regular close-meshed care and monitoring of your condition (usually at 3-month intervals). Health insurance companies offer the option of a health checkup every 3 years starting at age 35.
This examination includes: Anamnesis (recording of previous medical history, diseases in the family), blood examination (cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, blood sugar, if necessary for you symptom-oriented blood tests), urine examination, full body examination (if necessary including skin cancer screening), blood pressure measurement, discussion of the findings with advice and vaccination advice.
Younger insured persons between the ages of 18 and 35 can also receive a one-time check-up.

Men: Between the ages of 50 and 54, there is an entitlement to an annual test for invisible blood in the stool (iFOBT) or a colonoscopy which can be repeated after an interval of 10 years. From the age of 55, the stool test (iFOBT) can be performed every two years or, optionally, a colonoscopy as already described.
